But there are different departments in hotels that coordinate, sometimes make mistakes, and when they do happen, they solve them as quickly and diligently as possible.

1. Front Office Department 


The Front Office Department is the face of the hotel industry. It is the first point of interaction between the hotel and guests. It handles reservations, room assignments, reception, registration, billing and more. It is one of the most important departments in hotels.


The Front Office department receives guests, takes their luggage, gives them room keys and so on. They will also receive a confirmation email for online bookings before being allocated a room. In fact, the front office department in hotels communicates the most with guests, or indeed the only department that communicates with their customers at all.


2. Housekeeping Department 


The department in the hotel that ensures the cleanliness of the facilities is the cleaning department. It is one of the most important hotel departments, because a guest will always notice an uncleaned room, which will guarantee you a negative rating. After all, no one likes to live in an untidy room.

The cleaning staff is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel rooms, equipment, relaxation area and other parts of the hotel. This department in hotels also ensures that the hotel infrastructure is aesthetically pleasing. 3. Food & Beverage (F&B) Service Department

4. Food Production (Kitchen) Department

5. Maintenance / Engineering Department 
The Maintenance Department is responsible for repairing and maintaining the hotel infrastructure. This includes the hotel rooms, amenities, sewage, lighting, fountains, and common areas. They need to coordinate with the housekeeping department and reception to identify where maintenance is required, and then solve the issue immediately. This is one of the ‘backbone’ departments in hotels. 


6. Sales and Marketing Department 

The main task of the sales and marketing department in hotels is to increase hotel business through effective marketing. This can include traditional marketing along with digital marketing. It includes identifying customers, both online and offline, as well as effectively promoting their rooms, amenities and services. It also includes managing listings on OTAs to build an online store, which is also part of revenue management.


7. Purchase & Store Department 

The main responsibility of the purchasing department in hotels is to procure all necessary supplies for hotel businesses. It includes perishable food, toiletries, bedding, towels, hygiene materials, cleaning products and so on. The purchasing department must identify and select the right hotel suppliers to make the best use of their liquid capital.


8. Accounts / Finance Department 

The hotel industry, like all businesses, needs to record, track and analyze its financial transactions and positions. This is why the accounts department in hotels is crucial for the functioning of the business. 

The major tasks of the accounts department involve invoicing customers, collecting and monitoring accounts receivable, budgeting, financial analysis and more. They also establish internal controls for business processes, handle auditing and also communicate with banks for financing requirements. 


9. Human Resource Department 

The human resources department, also known as the HR department, is one of the most important departments in hotels. They are responsible for identifying, hiring, training, utilizing and developing employees.

The hotel industry is service-based, and motivated and efficient employees are required to provide the best guest experience to their customers. The HR department should be the voice for the employees and provide an effective grievance and redressal system.

10. Security Department 

The security department is one of those departments that are not visible to anyone, until its absent. Their main job is to frisk those entering the hotels, including their bags. This department also ensures that no theft takes place, and if it does, catch the culprits as soon as possible.
